Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert miles to kilometres?
Multiply the miles by 1.60934. For example, 10 miles × 1.60934 = 16.09 km. Alternatively, use the Length tab above — select Miles in the From field and Kilometres in the To field.
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Use the formula: °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32. For example, 20°C × 9/5 + 32 = 68°F. Use the Temperature tab for instant conversion.
What is the difference between a US gallon and a UK gallon?
A US gallon is 3.785 litres. A UK (imperial) gallon is 4.546 litres — about 20% larger. This difference matters for fuel economy comparisons: US mpg figures are based on the smaller US gallon, so a car achieving 40 US mpg is equivalent to about 48 UK mpg.
How do I convert kg to stone and pounds?
Divide by 6.35029 to get stones, then multiply the decimal remainder by 14 to get the remaining pounds. For example, 80 kg ÷ 6.35029 = 12.598 stone → 12 stone + 0.598 × 14 = 12 stone 8.4 pounds. Use the Weight tab for this conversion — it shows the result in decimal, which you can then manually split into stone and pounds.
What is a knot in km/h?
One knot is equal to one nautical mile per hour, which is 1.852 km/h or approximately 1.151 mph. Knots are the standard unit for maritime and aviation speeds.
Is this unit converter accurate?
Yes — all conversions use internationally recognised exact conversion factors (where they exist) or the best available precision. Temperature conversions use the exact formula. All calculations run in your browser with no server round-trip.
