How Age is Calculated
Age is calculated by subtracting your date of birth from today's date. The years, months, and days are computed separately to account for months of different lengths and leap years. For example, if you were born on 31 January and today is 1 March, you have completed 1 month (not 28 or 29 days' worth of a month).
Total days and hours are calculated directly from the difference in milliseconds between the two dates, so they are exact regardless of leap years.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is age calculated when the birth month hasn't occurred yet this year?
If today is before your birthday in the current year, the year count is reduced by one. For example, if you were born on 15 September 1990 and today is 1 June 2026, your age is 35 years (not 36) because your 2026 birthday hasn't happened yet.
Why does the days figure differ from simply multiplying years by 365?
Because months have different lengths (28–31 days) and leap years add an extra day every four years. This calculator counts the actual calendar days between your birth date and today, which accounts for all of these variations.
What if I was born on 29 February (leap day)?
In non-leap years, your birthday is treated as 28 February for the purpose of calculating the months and days breakdown. The total days figure is always exact regardless.
Is my date of birth stored anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your date of birth is never sent to any server.
Can I calculate the age of something other than a person?
Yes — enter any past date (the founding of a company, the release date of a film, the date a project started) and the calculator will tell you how long ago it was in years, months, and days.
