What is a Diff Checker?
A diff checker (or diff tool) compares two pieces of text and highlights the differences between them. It identifies what was added, removed, or changed, making it easy to spot modifications at a glance. Diff tools are essential for programmers, writers, editors, and anyone who needs to track changes in text documents.
How to Use This Tool
- Paste your original text in the left text area
- Paste your modified text in the right text area
- The differences are calculated automatically
- Choose your preferred view mode: Inline, Side by Side, or Unified
- Use the options to ignore case or whitespace differences
View Modes Explained
Inline View
Shows word-by-word differences in a single flowing text. Added words are highlighted in green, removed words in red with strikethrough. Best for seeing changes in context.
Side by Side View
Displays the original and modified text in two parallel columns. Makes it easy to compare corresponding lines. Ideal for reviewing document revisions.
Unified View
Git-style diff format with + and - prefixes. Shows all changes in a single column with clear markers for additions and deletions. Familiar to developers.
Common Use Cases
- Code Review: Compare code versions to see what changed
- Document Editing: Track changes between document revisions
- Content Writing: Compare drafts to see edits made by reviewers
- Configuration Files: Find differences between config versions
- Data Validation: Verify that expected changes were made correctly
- Legal Documents: Identify modifications in contracts or agreements
Options
Ignore Case
When enabled, "Hello" and "hello" are treated as identical. Useful when case differences don't matter for your comparison.
Ignore Whitespace
Ignores differences in spacing, tabs, and indentation. Helpful for comparing code where formatting may vary but content is the same.
Privacy
All text comparison is done entirely in your browser. Your text is never sent to any server, making this tool safe for comparing sensitive documents, code, or confidential information.
